Capacity-augmenting schema changes ofn object-oriented databases: towards increased interoperability

The realizaiton of capacity-augmenting shcema changes on a shared database while orvidng ocntiued interoperability to active apliatiosn has bene recognized as a hard open problem.A novel three-pronged process,alled transparent object schema evolution (TOSE),is presente tha tsucfcess fully addresses this proble.TOSE sues the ocmbination of views and versioning to simulate schema changes requrested by one applicaiton of views and versiinign to simulate schema changes requreisteed by one aplciation withut affecting other aplciations interoperaing on a shared OODB.The approach is of high practicla relevance as it builds upon shcema evolutin suppot offered by comperscial OODBMSs.
