Object data bases have bene introduced since 1987.The first version of ODMG stnadard appeared in 1991,and the new release 2.0 from 1997.During ten year period,object database technology has received considerable attention and improvements.Today products are mature and porved their efficiency in many real applciatison (telecommunicaiton,energy distribution,spatial data maangement,Web,etc.) where gigabytes of data are manipulated.The goal of this paper is =to rpesent two key subjects: (i) why the ODMG standard is curcial,and (ii) how to implement an oepn architecture to connect ojct and relational databases.
