With the Internet, the reach of distance education programs is becoming global. Now instruction material can be provided online, without physical media like booklets or CD's, along with electronic communication. One implication of this is that regional limitations are no longer significant. Before it would not have been practical to interact closely with a student in India throughout a course because the time for a letter to reach might take 8 to 14 days, and using a courier service every week is obviously expensive. Several hundred person-years of teaching experience on the one hand, and the opportunities opened up by. new technologies on the other hand, are the basis for an international master program designed by a network of university professors from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This program is based entirely on multimedia and commonly available information and communication technologies. It leads to the degree of an 'International Master of Business Informatics' (MBI).
