Description of the MaterialrnThis paper describes the reasoning and methods used to design, develop, and test a 7500 psi differentialrnpressure Subsea BOP Control System. This system introduces the necessary upgrades and enhancements tornexisting control systems for application on the very demanding 20,000 psi Subsea Ram BOP Stacks. ManyrnDrilling Contractors are requiring additional features on 20 ksi BOP Systems such as additional Ram Cavities andrnlarger Shear Ram Operators which require significant additional control fluid at higher pressure. The 7500 psirncontrol fluid supply requires fewer accumulators and delivers greater usable fluid than conventional 5000 psirnsystems.rnApplicationrnThe BOP Control System is enhanced to supply 7500 psi differential pressure from the surface supply to thernaccumulators on the Lower BOP Stack. The surface hydraulic power unit, HPU, and accumulators supply therndiverter and other surface requirements and supplies the subsea BOP through the riser conduit(s) and hot line.rnThe rigid conduit manifold distributes the 7500 psi hydraulic supply between the LMRP accumulators, redundantrnpods, and lower BOP accumulators. 7500 psi to 5000 psi step down regulators supply fluid to pod manifolds andrnLower BOP Stack functions.rnResults, Observations and ConclusionsrnDevelopment of the key components of the 7500 psi system include, surface HPU, various sizes of regulators,rnSPM function valves, check valves, shuttle valves, and isolation valves. Development of these components hasrnproven the new Generation of 7500 psi BOP Control System is a viable solution for the new generation of 20,000rnpsi (20 ksi) BOP Systems.rnSignificance of Subject MatterrnThe 7500 psi control system supply allows Emergency Systems such as the Casing and Blind Shear Ramsrncapable of shearing pipe at demands approaching 5000 psi which would be prohibited by 5000 psi systems. Thern7500 psi Control System greatly reduces the number of accumulators needed for surface and subsea highrnpressure control fluid storage when compared to 5000 psi control systems.
