The paper will address the application of the 5,000 Te mast crane onboard the Seven Borealis. It's unique design and specialrnfeatures render it a unique tool in deep water construction wherever larger structures are being installed in ever deeper waterrnand increasingly hostile environments.rnOther than the dedicated heavy lift vessels available in the market, most of the SURF construction vessels have limited cranerncapacities while specializing in installation of SURF product in deep water only. The mast crane onboard Seven Borealis has arncapacity normally only found on dedicated heavy lift vessels and combines that with the capability of installing SURF productrn(rigid pipe, flexible & umbilical's) in deep water. As a result, the mast crane onboard Seven Borealis bridges the gap betweenrnSURF installation capabilities and heavy lift.rnMost cranes having a capacity over 2,000 Te are large derrick cranes. This paper will address some of the unique designrnfeatures of the mast crane onboard Seven Borealis, especially when linked to the S-lay and J-lay systems and used as arncoherent whole operational tool.
