Design/build for underground construction

摘要

Design/build delivery has been used for only a few underground construction projects in the United States to date. As more agencies look toward design/build as an alternative means of project delivery, there is a growing concern that (1) design/build provisions that have been developed for surface-based construction projects are not directly applicable to underground projects, and (2) the underground industry, including contractors and designers, would benefit from more sharing of experiences on design/build projects. To foster this exchange, a session dedicated to design/build for underground construction was conducted as a part of the Annual Meeting of the Underground Technology Research Council held in October, 1999. This paper summarizes comments and opinions offered by a panel of industry representatives and the audience. As background, the paper also summarizes comments from past conference sessions on the subject.
