Migration from TL1 to CMISE Operating System Interfaces in Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier Systems

One of the most important issues faced by manufacturers of Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier(NGDLC) systems is compatibility with the emerging standards for operations system (OS)interfaces. There are two fundamentally different standard interfaces for 0Ss: TransactionLanguage One (TL1), a non-Open System Interconnect (non-OSI) interface, and CommonManagement Information Service Element (CMISE), an OSI interface. NGDLC systems areexpected to support the TL1 interface in the very near term and the CMISE interface thereafter.The TL1 interfaces need to be supported because of the large number of embedded OSs thatsupport TL1 and also because it will be a few years before TR-303-based CMISE OSs will bewidely deployed.
