PROPOSED EDUCATION STRATEGY FOR COMPOSITE TECHNOLOGY

FAA composite safety and certification initiatives work with all sectors of the industry in order to ensure the safe and efficient deployment of composite technologies used in existing and future aircraft. The FAA, in collaboration with twelve schools participating in the FAA's Joint Advanced Materials & Structures Center of Excellence, is proposing an education strategy for transferring composite technology practice and knowledge to practitioners and others interfacing with composite materials. This initiative is an essential element of safety improvement. This proposal for an education strategy addresses the current gaps that exist between educational organizations and the needs of industry for relevant and practical training. A number of options are presented, with a review of current on-going initiatives based on challenges which are unique to composite technology.
