MECHANICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF VIRGIN NYLON AND OLEFIN CARPET-POLYMER BASED STRUCTURAL LAMINATES

摘要

This report summarizes techniques for fabricating structural laminates from virgin carpets. Materials are fabricated using a simple, resin-infusion based fabrication technique. Subsequently, the fabricated laminates are characterized to determine various mechanical and physical properties. This technique exploits the three dimensional architecture of carpet fibers to fabricate laminates with improved mechanical and physical properties. The current investigation is focused on laminates fabricated from virgin carpet.
