The Archaeological Investigation to Sunken Boats in Laoyemiao Water Area of Poyang Lake

Laoyemiao water area,located at Poyang Lake,Jiangxi province,is termed to as "Monster Triangle in China" because of boats often sunken in this area.After the careful analysis to the collected information about the area,the authors believe that the legends to this area are lack of reliable historical recordings and scientific basis,and full of legendry.This paper points out the key to unveil the "Myth of Sunken Boats" in this area,i.e.finding sunken boats,and also introduces the magnetic investigation covering 13.92 km2 finished in the water area in 2011,and preliminary verification result for the 9 magnetic anomalies obtained on the water surface precision magnetic survey,which can be the key evidence to disclose "the Mystery of Sunken Boats in Laoyemiao Water Area".It is shown that geophysical techniques are useful and helpful in archaeological work,especially in water area.
