Magnitudes and relative orientation of (51)V quadrupole coupling and very small/large chemical shift anisotropy (CSA) tensors can be obtained with high precision from high-field ~(51)V MAS NMR spectra of the central and satellite transitions. Employing ~(51)V MAS and triple-quantum MAS NMR this is demonstrated for YVO_4 and LaVO_4, which possess very small (51)V CSAs, while tris(triphenylsilyl) vanadate illustrates the method for a ~(51)V site with a large ~(51)V CSA. Relationships between anisotropic ~(51)V NMR parameters and structural data are discussed.
