First, the structure of water has been studied by ~2H NMR of deuterated water. The chemical shift is independent of the presence of the nanoparticles. Some water is adsorbed on the nanoparticles, in addition to the surfactants. Secondly, NMR measurements of deuterated chloroform and acetone have been carried out. Those seem to be adsorbed on the nanoparticles. The NMR spectra allow one to conclude that the nanoparticles are essentially stabilized in the organic phase with solvent and surfactant molecules (water, chloroform or acetone and AOT) adsorbed on them.
