HEADWATER PROBLEMS IN AFRICA

Africa contains a huge array of headwater contexts. It is difficult to provide general prescriptions for headwater control. However, many headwater problems are related to high population pressure on the land. Therefore, any kind of protective measures proposed for African headwater regions must be accompanied by careful socio-economic analysis. Great climate variability - in both time and space - is another important and often negative factor, which cannot be controlled but only taken into the account.
