During the spring of 2009, pump users at three reliability and maintenance conferences and expert professionals known to the author were asked to report vibration criteria utilized at their facilities to judge the condition of centrifugal pumps. For consistency, participants were asked to describe their policies on an eight question questionnaire. Eleven responses were obtained from the United States, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Although the number of responses was disappointingly low compared to the people asked; the origin, convergence of responses, broad experience of the respondents and thoroughness of answers strongly suggests that responses are an accurate representation of criteria utilized worldwide to assess the condition of centrifugal pumps.
