This paper reports the preparation and performance evaluation of synthetic shear stable, water-resistant lithium complex base extreme pressure grease compositions. The synthetic shear stable, water resistant lithium complex base grease composition was prepared in-situ by reacting 12-hydroxystearic acid with lithium hydroxide monohydrate in the presence of complexing agent, suitable polymer and synthetic base oil. The prepared synthetic shear stable, water resistant lithium complex base grease was fortified with the commercially available extreme pressure (EP) additive to get the higher weld load as well as Timken OK load and antiwear properties. The prepared grease composition in the presence of extreme pressure additive, exhibited higher values of weld load and lower values of the wear-scar diameter at higher loads in the four-ball test and also exhibited higher Timken OK load than the lithium complex base grease without extreme pressure additive. The rust inhibitor was also incorporated in the prepared lithium complex base grease to pass the rust test. The prepared grease composition also showed excellent water-resistant and shear stable properties as compared to base lithium complex grease composition.
