With the government of India issuing a directive to curb the use of wood in the construction of government aided buildings, the demand for alternative materials and alternative details with traditional materials has shot up in the recent past. Aluminum is rapidly replacing wood and Copper is replacing steel in the building construction. The paper deals with the importance and highlights the properties of five Non-Ferrous metals used in building construction, namely, Aluminum, Copper, Zinc, Lead & Tin with emphasis on Aluminum. The scope of use of Non-Ferrous metals in Building Construction is being discussed in details while enlightening present scenario in brief. The challenge ahead is to widen the scope and application of aluminum and copper based on their inherent properties that make them the ideal material for building industry. However, to suggest alternative construction details using Non-Ferrous metals (Aluminum and Copper) in order to make building construction and interiors efficient is the main objective of this paper.
