Natural sand is used as an aggregate in plastering, plain concrete and reinforced concrete with the increase in construction activity natural resources of sand are getting depleted day by day. Hence in this investigation the use of stone dust as a partial replacement of sand in concrete is studied. Crusher stone dust is a by-product available from stone crusher units, where large size stone blocks are crushed to obtain the coarse aggregate which is used in concrete. Smaller size particles which are left over can be utilized as part replacement of sand resulting in economy in concrete and saving of natural sand. Hence in the study experimental investigation have been carried out on the strength properties of concrete made with stone dust, used as partial replacement and full replacement of sand. Sample have been prepared using 20%,40% 60% and 100% replacement of sand by stone dust. The compressive and tensile strength properties of these specimen have been compared with those of conventional concrete using no replacement at 7 days and 28 days. It is observed that there is no reduction in compressive and tensile strength of concrete where stone dust is used. There is a slight loss in workability when stone dust is used in concrete, which can be made up by slight changes in the cement content, and w/c ratio without sacrificing strength. It was found that the cement content is to be slightly increased with the consequent increase in the quantity of water to improve workability.
