FLYASH AS A CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL - PROBLEMS AND PERSPECTIVES

摘要

Storage of millions of tonnes of flyash in ash ponds has become hazardous in terms of environmental problems and occupying thousands of hectares of precious land. Worldwide research enabled to characterize flyash for its physical, chemical and engineering properties. Despite several avenues identified for potential use, hardly 5 to 10% of produced ash is being utilized, leaving iarge volume of ash for storage in lagoons. Several research organizations are launching demonstrative projects for its bulk utilization in road and embankment construction in addition to several other uses to convert this waste material into worthy material.
