PLASTICS (POLYMERS) IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

In this paper, we attempt to develop a sound understanding of the fundamentals of polymer science and engineering, and the physics associated with the vast array of properties associated with these newer materials. We then present a summary of the variety of applications, particularly in the construction industry, not only of the inexpensive commodity polymers, but also of the more expensive speciality polymers (e.g., ladder polymers, high temperature polymers and composites). These should help add on polymeric materials to the repertoir of a Civil Engineer involved with routine and specialized constructions.
