In this paper, authors present a novel long-stroke submersible solenoid actuator used for the underwater release device of hybrid profiler as well as a bottom-sitting and release mode of the profiler. This paper proposes a release device by which the profiler can be used to release the bottoming-sitting part to obtain positive buoyancy in the event of a hazard. The authors have also designed a long-stroke submersible solenoid actuator used for this underwater release device. A comparison between different structures is proposed to improve the electromagnetic force of the solenoid actuator. The electromagnetic field numerical method and experiment are adopted to certify this optimization method. In order to validate the proposed released device, a river trial was carried out.
