摘要

We present results from an agent-based simulation model of the social impact of HIV/AIDS in the Sekhukhune district of the Limpopo province in South Africa. AIDS in the Sub-Saharan region has not only affected individual's health but has long-term implications for the economic development of the society. The impact of the disease relates to stresses such as food insecurity, high climate variability, market fluctuations, and lack of the government's and external support. The model focuses on decisions made at the individual and household levels. This paper addresses the role of state grants in coping with the socioeconomic stressors in the case study region.
