Are recently excavated bronze artifacts more deterorated than earlier finds? second report

In 1991 an national interdisciplinary project was started in Sweden with the aim of investigating which factors primarily influence the deterioration of archaeological copper alloys in soil. One part of the project has concentrated on recently excavated artifacts, which have been studied in detail, including analysis of the objects and surrounding soil, archaeological context, and general environment. The data have been evaluated by multivariate statistical analysis. The second part of the project, which we describe here, is an investigation of about 1600 archaeoological copper-alloy musemum objects.
