The spatial distribution of water in water trees grown innpolyethylene by the water needle method was determined using FTIRn(Fourier-transform infrared) microspectroscopy. The water contentndecreased from the base of the tree to the front in agreement withnoptical microscopy measurements on water-filled microcavities. Besidesnwater, ether groups were detected with a distribution similar to that ofnwater. No other absorption band was detected in the purely water-treednspecimens which were analyzed
