Abstract: Information Gatekeepers Inc. has been in the businessof collecting and analyzing information in the fiberoptics and optoelectronics industries for the pastfourteen years through its publishing and consultingbusinesses. Since optoelectronic technologies are wellreported by the scientific journals and conferences,only data on markets, competitive trends, productioncapabilities, etc., are discussed in this paper. Thepaper reviews the present situation of private sectordata collection on optoelectronics technologies andmarkets, the problems that exist in data collection,and possible solutions to what is perceived as aserious national problem. !0
