Can We Solve the Data Management Puzzle?

Data Management in E&P is a curious mixture of people first, data of course, databases by force, quality like always and lots of bits and pieces for making it working. We had a dream where everything would be properly organized, easily manageable, friendly queriable thanks to build-in interoperability and interconnectivity. Desperately, the real life is made of incompatible data models, poor management interfaces, missing components and incompatible software to list some of them. Nevertheless, we introduced some missing glue in our Data Management puzzle in the form of a Common Administration platform and of a Web Data Access Portal giving our geoscientists access to a large set of data repositories held in our headquarters. The purpose of this presentation will be to address the unsolved issues which are preventing us to offer a complete picture as they were encountered in the course of this work.
