The growth of high-throughput and combinatorial methods in experimental materials science has pushed human-mediated data processing tools beyond their limit. OpenMat is a scientific data management system that helps scientists at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) by automating the processing of the heterogeneous data that is generated as part of NREL's scientific workflow. To aid these scientists, OpenMat has recently been extended to support ad hoc structural queries over the data it integrates using a hierarchical data format known as AutoDB. This paper presents these extensions and shows how they can aid NREL scientists in extracting knowledge from OpenMat's integrated data.
