Various nitro substituted-N-aryllhetero-aryl-tetrazoles are synthesized. The nitro-rich ar-yl-tetrazoles are prepared by the condensation of anilines and triethylorthoformate in acetic acid followed by the cycloaddition of isocyanide intermediate with dipolar-azide and subsequent nitration. ~1H and ~(13_C-NMR spectroscopy studies characterizes these compounds. X-ray diffraction analysis confirms the structures of these compounds. Thermal properties are determined by DSC-TGA data. Heats of formation are calculated from the computational studies. The molecules exhibited density in between 1.57 to 1.79 g/cc; some of the newly synthesized compounds showed good thermal stability, high positive heats of formation, reasonable detonation velocities, and pressures.
