Nowadays, the use of SF gas is limited and a new kind of environment-friendly circuit breaker is an urgent need in high-voltage switch area. In this paper, the research status of low-carbonization in the high-voltage switch field is introduced, the steps how to apply the gaps system with vacuum gap and CO gap in series to the high voltage switch field is proposed. Its key behaviors include the dynamic dielectric recovery, the interreaction relationship of vacuum arc and CO gas arc, and the synergistic control strategy between vacuum arc and CO gas arc. Vacuum arc and CO gas arc are generated in the operation of vacuum gap and CO gas gap in series. It will be a feasible proposal connecting vacuum gap and CO gap in series as a high voltage switch to interrupt short-circuit current based on the above-mentioned problems are proved.
