MICROBIOLOGY IN BIO-CONCEPT METALWORKING

Water-based metal working fluids (MWFs) are commonly used in manufacturing and machining industries. As MWFs may be populated by bacteria and/or fungi, microbial contamination has been a major problem in industry, primarily because of microbial-derived consequences on fluid quality, integrity and performance, and potential adverse health effects. Therefore, most MWFs are (pre-) treated with both bactericides and fungicides. Since almost 40 years, Blaser Swisslube AG proposes unique bio-concept MWFs without bactericides that through its components become naturally populated by the harmless waterborne bacteria Pseudomonas oleovorans, additionally preventing proliferation of any other bacteria within the fluid. This leads to stable MWFs, suitable for long-term employment with a high performance.
