Kinetics reactions and photocatalytic activity of Titanium oxide (TiO2) preparated by one-step method

Anatase and rutile Titanium oxide (TiO2) had been prepared by one-step method, the powders of two phases TiO2 were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and Zeta (ζ) potential. It was found that the degree of crystallization and size of two phases TiO2 were similar with each other. The absorbing ability and photocatalytic activity of rutile TiO2 was better than that of anatase TiO2. Under visible (Vis) light condition, the kinetics of photocatalyzed three organisms (Methylene blue trihydrate, Methyl orange,Methyl red) reactions, whose concentration were 25 mg·L -1 , were characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The results showed that the kinetics reactions included zero order reactions and first order reactions. And the reaction rate and parameter of rutile TiO2 were better than that of anatase TiO2, which were accordant with the results of the photocatalytic activity of two phases TiO2.
