A new cationic polymer, poly dimethyldiallylammonium chloride (PDMDAAC) was used to prepare a series of cationic polymer/bentonite (PDMDAAC/Bt). The adsorption of phenol and 2, 4-dichlorophenol(2,4-DCP) on PDMDAAC/Bt were studied. The results showed that the adsorption ability of the PDMDAAC/Bt was bigger for phenol than 2,4-DCP. When the solution pH was higher than 9, the adsorption of pollutants onto PDMDAAC/Bt was decreased strongly.The reacting equilibrium time of phenol was about 30 minutes, while that of 2,4-DCP was 60 minutes. The adsorption kinetic models of phenol and 2,4-DCP onto PDMDAAC/Bt both fitted to the pseudo second-order kinetic model. The adsorption isotherms of phenol and 2,4-DCP on PDMDAAC/Bt both fitted to the Freundlich equation.
