Tablet PC: Blackboard to the Web

The use of the Tablet PC~? as a lecture aid allows for the best ofrnboth worlds: the ability to present prepared lectures with wellrnthought out graphics and the ability to annotate and develop arnlecture in real time as would be done on a conventionalrnblackboard.rnAs classroom presentations become more computer based, theyrngenerally become less flexible and interactive. As the lecturernbecomes “canned” using tools such as Microsoft PowerPoint,rnthe ability to change direction, annotate or illustrate on the flyrnbecomes difficult if not impossible. For mathematics, thernsciences and engineering, the ability to illustrate points isrnabsolutely critical. If the classroom is darkened to allow forrnprojection capabilities it is problematic to use the blackboardrnwithout completely disrupting the flow of the presentation.rnUsing a Tablet PC with wireless connectivity and projectionrncapabilities, an instructor can simply change applications andrnuse the computer as a digital writing pad, projecting directly tornthe class instead of using the blackboard. The presenter is nornlonger tethered to a podium but can wander about freely. As anrnadded bonus, all notes, illustrations, and annotations tornpresentations can then be published directly to the web.
