This paper discusses and compares deterministic and probabilistic approaches for assessing hosting capacity (HC) of distribution networks for connecting wind-based and PV-based distributed generation (DG). The presented approaches consider actual variations of solar and wind energy resources, supplied demands and dynamic thermal ratings (DTRs) of network components, based on available measurement data. The obtained results allow for a detailed analysis of the firm HC allocation for wind-based and PV-based DG in distribution networks, confirming that, due to implementation of DTRs, firm HC of wind DG is roughly twice the firm HC of PV DG.
