Conventionally, aluminum foil has been used as a current collector in electric double layer capacitors. In this study, a newly developed stainless steel nonwoven fabric was used as the current collector. As a result, it was found that the specific capacity of the latter capacitor electrode was about twice as high as that of the former, in addition to being superior in terms of charge-discharge repeatability. The details of these experimental results and the mechanism of the increased capacity are reported.
