A tubular design for the British Airways London Eye

Because of the uniqueness of the design of the B.A, London Eye, advanced structural analysis were required. After a thorough feasibility study, which resulted in modifications of the initial design the detailed analysis, were carried out. All structural parts were examined on strength, deformations, fatigue and stability. Special attention is paid to the dynamic behaviour of the structure under wind loading. Because of the complexity of the analysis great use is being made of finite element models.
