After briefly introducing the structure and the character of the Switched Reluctance Drive(SRD), according to the special request for electromotor in submarine propulsion, it is certainly to raise the reliability in hardware and software when applying the SRD to submarine propulsion. The hardware mainly involves reliable design of switched reluctance motor, the design of power converter adopting Intelligent Power Module to improve reliability and the redundancy design of position sensor using several sets of photosensitive components. The software mainly involves software processing of the redundancy design of position sensor and the self-checking and self-verification of the controlling system, etc. It is proved that after adopting the reliable design of above-mentioned series, it is entirely feasible to apply the SRD to submarine propulsion.
