This paper introduces a digital PWM control of the KY step-up converter based on sigma-delta modulator, in which the mathematical modeling of the KY step-up converter and sigma-delta modulator are deduced. Then the digital control of KY converter with sigma-delta modulator, integrator and dumper, and digital to duty cycle converter has been successfully built in MATLAB Simulink to verify the idea. The output of the passive sigma-delta modulator can produce a discrete-time PWM signal to control the KY converter. This modeling work can be beneficial to design a low power passive sigma-delta modulator controlled KY step-up converter with low output voltage and fast transient response in future.
