Geomorphologic evolution of a constructed MSG beach in Central Puget Sound during a January, 2012 storm is monitored and compared with the predicted results of the recently developed XBeach-G model. The goal is to take a first step in evaluating the performance of existing numerical models for prediction of MSG beach response and to identify their limitations keeping in mind that XBeach-G is developed for gravel-only beaches. Results of this investigation can be used to build a foundation for a methodology for designing MSG beaches incorporating the environmental settings as well as intended beach functions including habitat restoration and shore protection.
