The stochastic model for the estimation of sediment transport rate has been developed to incorporate the effect of irregularity of the wave forces on the bed. Using the field measured data of wave orbital velocity near the bed during the storm event in the Tokyo Bay, it is confirmed that the probability density function of the instantaneous wave orbital velocity follows the Gaussian distribution. After conversion of the instantaneous velocity to the bottom shear stress and application of the fluid mud transport formula, the model can estimates the fluid mud transport rate under the irregular waves. The simulated results for the observed wave condition shows that the conventional constant shear stress approach provides extremely small amount estimates than the stochastic model.
