We have demonstrated the effectiveness of electric field technology to increase deinking (reduced The effective residue ink concentration (ERIC) of recycled newsprint (ONP). In this work we compared the cost of using this technology to traditional deinking chemistry on a laboratory scale. The savings in chemical cost, due to reduction chemical usage more than compensated for the cost of power consumption with the use of electric field technology. We have also examined the fiber loss during de-inking. The yield lost during deinking is higher with electric field but the yield loss can be reduced with increase stirrer speed, lower surfactant dosage, and by changing aeration ratio which relates volumetric air flow rate to flotation treatment time. At low surfactant dosage treatment without electric field does not perform as well when compared to de-inking treatment that incorporates electric field.
