At present the perception-to-design road map is like those ancient maps - you fall off the edge of the world if you stray too far from where you are. If we are to find new heights of pleasing product sounds, we need compasses that guide us, at least to the next hill, and hopefully to the mountain beyond. But those new compasses are unlikely to be found by tinkering with our current lodestones. We need a fresh look at our tools.
