Proceedings in Regulating Private Noise Sources in Sensitive Areas in Germany

The German government is intensively working on regulations to develop and exploit renewable energy sources. Today not only energy companies, but also private households have the possibility to generate heat and electricity with an appropriate financial and technical effort. A well-functioning public funding system makes the market for block-heating power plants, wind turbines, air conditioners and heat pumps growing. Roughly guessed there will be more than 10 million private electric, cooling and heat generators in Germany in 2030. Following that and concerning the congestion of housing, we face a new quality and quantity of noise sources in Germany. The "noise quality" is moving from the simple level towards a more complex disposition. Especially low frequency noise - which comes with any equipment that produces or uses electrical energy, has our intensive attention. According to our noise policy we are studying the impact of these new noise sources and noise quality. We are developing legislative instruments for effective noise abatement to a follow-up of our existing law. This paper is a progress report of our work on this challenge.
