1.Introduction Heavy rainfall occurred over the middle Korean peninsula on September 21,2010,with a maximum 24-h rainfall amount greater than 290 mm in the Seoul metropolitan area (SMA).Large damages occurred by this rainfall event mainly due to 1) intense rainfall in a narrow area,and 2) the difficulty of predicting the development of band of heavy rainfall.
