Squall linesare commonmesoscale convective systems (MCSs) in China.They have been always the challenge in operational weather forecast due to their complicated formation and development processes and the severe lack of intensive observations.Statistical features of squall lines in large area of China have not been seen in literature.With the improvement in Chinese radar network,it has been possible to perform a survey on the squall lines in east China.This work investigates the general features of squall lines in east China (east of 100°E)including the spatial and temporal distribution,length,intensity,orientation,life span,movement,organization,formation and dissipation modes,and environmental features etc.based on the mosaic of composite radar reflectivity during 2008-2009.
