There are no detailed accounts of seed germination in the genus Crocus (Asparagales) which consists of about 100 species, distributed from western Europe to western China and including taxa of conservation and horticultural interest. We studied the requirements for dormancy break and germination in three related Tuscan endemics: the temperate Crocus sp. (currently undescribed); the submediterranean Crocus etruscus Pari, and the Mediterranean C. ilvensis Peruzzi & Carta (Peruzzi et al 2011).
