Seed germination of Zelkova abelicea and climate change impacts

Zelkova abelicea (Lam.) Boiss. is an alpine Tertiary relict species, the only endemic tree in the Cretan flora. The dispersal units are short annual shoots bearing dry leaves and a few one-seeded drupes (Fournaraki et al 2006). This study aims in elucidating germination behaviour and in assessing possible future impacts that may be caused by the predicted climate change.
