Agriophyllum squarrosum is an annual of Chenopodiaceae, which is widely distributed in northern China and middle of Asia, with characteristics of tolerance to drought, poor soil, as well as of adaptation to sandy soil (Zheng et al 2004). It is a pioneer plant species in mobile dunes and accelerates the succession of vegetation. However, seeds of A. squarrosum are highly dormant, which causes difficulties for seed testing and field establishment. Breaking dormancy with gibberellins (GA3) has already been widely used for seed testing and fluridone as an inhibitor of ABA has not yet been studied. The aim of the study was to find out the suitable concentrations of gibberellins and fluridone for breaking dormancy of this species.
