d deterioration is a major problem in agricultural production. Some damage to seeds during storage is inevitable and depends on the temperature and relative air humidity in the storage vessel, seed moisture content (MC), duration of storage, type of seed and initial seed quality (Priestley 1986). Seed aging is characterized by a sigmoid relationship between viability and time, in which a phase of no apparent change in seed vigor is followed by a phase of rapid death period in which seeds maintain quality, has an unspecified duration and death occurs without warning at some threshold. The regular assessment of seed viability does not allow reliable means to predict or prevent this critical problem.
