Based on the skewed function, the most probable temperature(MPT) was defined and the temporal-spatial distribution of the frequencies and strength of extreme temperature events in different climate states were investigated, where the climate states were defined by the time scale of 1961-1990, 1971-2000 and 1981-2009 (just called StateI, StateII, State III respectively). The results showed that in space region, the frequencies of HTE (High Temperature Events)in summer decreased clearly in the lower and middle reaches of Yellow River in State I and that of LTE(Low Temperature Events) decreased in north in State II. At present state, the frequencies of HTE increased significantly in most areas over China except North East, while the frequencies of LTE decreased mainly in North China and the regions between Yangtze River and Yellow River. The distribution of frequencies and strength of extreme temperature events were agreed well in spatial. The analysis of time evolution of extreme events showed that the extreme of HTE was stronger with the states while that of LTE was lowing. So HTE deserves special attention.
