Binders such as N-methylol acrylamide (NMA) that provides self-crosslinking ability to the final latex is widely used in waterborne acrylic dispersions for nonwoven fabric, protective coating, latex paint and adhesive applications. Generally copolymer dispersions contain 3-7 wt % crosslinker that enhances tensile strength, impact resistance, abrasion resistance, peel strength, water, detergent, alkali and solvent resistance. However, due to the new EU regulations and worldwide chemical safety awarness, there is a high demand for formaldehyde free crosslinkers in the textile industry.
